Now, before you go thinking I’m a big tech snob, understand that I’ve got a GMail account or two (nothing like foxylady@gmail.com), but when I’m doing business with someone I’m not planning on giving them that address to contact me on. Here’s three excellent reasons why you shouldn’t either:

1. A business email address looks and feels PROFESSIONAL

As they say, you only get to make a first impressions once. You wouldn’t turn up to a business meeting with a new client wearing an old pair of tracksuit pants and a stained tshirt. You want to look the part. You’d make the effort to look professional, to ooze confidence and competence. In the same, you want your potential clients to see you as a professional, right down to your website and your email address. There is no question that jack.smith@superconsulting.com looks and feels more professional than jsmith@hotmail.com.

2. A business email address reinforces WHO YOU ARE

When you meet new clients or attend networking meetings, you want to do everything you can to not only make yourself more memorable but to reinforce that impression in every way you can. Often, one of the first things we do (or ought to do!) is send out a thank-you email after important meetings and introductions. You don’t want them thinking “jsmith@hotmail.com… who’s that?!” – instead, you want them making an instant connect as soon as they see your address in their inbox.

3. Setting up your own business addresses allows you the ABILITY TO GROW
